Counter Installation

Installing your counter is simple, takes only a couple of minutes and will start functioning immediately.
  1. Go to hitcounters.net
  2. Setup your counter details and preferences
  3. Choose a counter style
  4. Click "Get Counter Code"
  5. Using any HTML editor (Microsoft FrontPage, Macromedua Dreamweaver, etc.) copy and paste this hitcounter code wherever you would like the hitcounter to be on your web page. Be sure to paste the code in the source code and the actual HTML document, otherwise your hitcounter will not work and you will see a lot of foreign characters on your web page.

Once you are finished and click away, a broken image might appear which is fine. One you upload the new page to your server, everything should work.
  6. Click "Save"
  7. Upload your new web page with the hitcounter code to your hosting server and ENJOY! Thank you for choosing hitcounters.net.

Troubleshooting

Setting up our hitcounter is relatively simple, but that does not mean you won’t encounter problems. Some of the most common issues are:

I followed your directions, but now there is HTML code all over my web page. What is the problem?
If you are seeing HTML code that looks like garbage on the page, you pasted the hitcounter code on the design layout of your webpage. To fix this, be sure to add it to the source code layout. This can be done using any popular HTML editor. Should you require more assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.
My web counter isn’t updating everything I hit refresh in my web browser. I want to count how many times my web pages are accessed.
You counter was probably setup to count "unique visitors" and not page views. To fix this, just visit hitcounters.net and setup your hitcounter again but select "page views" this time around. Copy, paste, and re-upload and you are all set.
I’m seeing a broken image where my counter should be, what’s wrong?
If you just pasted your new hitcounter code into your HTML document and it is not live on the server, this is normal. If there is still a broken image once you have uploaded it, you might have missed some of the code. Simply setup your counter again and re-upload. If this problem still exits, please contact us.
My counter was working and now it’s not. What’s the problem?
If your counter stops working or is showing another graphic, something happened your hitcounter code and it will have to be re-installed to work again. Simply sign-up for a new counter, copy, paste and upload and it should solve your problem.
These are the most common issues our customers have run into when installing their hitcounter. Should you have any more questions or require installation assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.
